I Love Halloween

September11

Adorable Halloween Gifts

I’ve been dying to try iron-ons with My Digital Studio and our Mini Muslin Bags—and this was the perfect opportunity! First, I selected a stamp from MDS’s Halloween Bash Stamp Brush Set and colored it in. Then, I mirrored the image in MDS (the image needs to be backwards for it to work with the iron-ons). Next, I printed the images on my iron-ons, ironed them to the Mini Muslin Bags, then peeled off the backing.

I put treats inside, finished them off with some filler that resembles straw—and was done! Easy peasy.

Do you have any holiday project plans for our Mini Muslin Bags? Let us know!

New Single Stamps—Christmas Star

Simply Stars is one of my favorite new stamp sets. The new Christmas Star single stamp is quickly climbing the ranks. I’m a fan of big images, and this one is definitely big.
I love stars because they are very versatile. It isn’t an overtly feminine or masculine shape and can be used year-round for all kinds of projects.
This framed décor project is a fun collection of different textures and patterns. Because the star stamp is so large, it easily becomes a popped-up 3D star by scoring and folding. I also used the Chevron Border Punch, the Expressions Thinlits Dies, and a canvas banner piece from the Banner Simply Created Kit in the holiday catalog.

The Mini Muslin Bag project was a lot of fun to do, too. To get a perfectly crisp image, I heat embossed the star with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder onto parchment paper, then ironed it onto the muslin bag. It does take the shine off of the embossing powder, but it guarantees a perfect image and perfect placement every time.

This bag would be a perfect holiday gift. I made a bundle of five note card-sized greeting cards and paired them with the new Crumb Cake Note Card envelopes. These cards are very simple—just the Christmas Star stamped in Sahara Sand ink and the Season’s Greetings sentiment from the Joy to The World Stamp Set embossed in gold. I finished it off with a quick Linen Thread bow.
I’ve got several other ideas for using this beautiful stamp. It’s going on my next order for sure. What will you make with the Christmas Star?

Cool new stamps

Another Thank You

You might not believe me, but even though I have my dream job here at Stampin’ Up! I really am a sub-par crafter. My card making abilities are novice at best; however, that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy making and giving cards for most occasions.

So, I decided to design a thank you stamp set with simplicity in mind. (Think mass-produced wedding thank-you cards!) With this set, all you need is some paper, ink, and the Another Thank You Photopolymer Stamp Set. Take a look at the variety of cards I was able to make with just these few ingredients! It’s perfect for crafters of all levels.

Be sure to share your creations on your favorite social media channel. I am excited to see how you say thanks!

$20 Tuesday

$20 Tuesday . . . Pencil Box

Join us every Tuesday for the month of August for our $20 Tuesdays. We will explore some great options that you can create for $20 or under! These prices are based on the US price value and do not include shipping and handling or tax.
Did you know that there are 2.8 billion pencils manufactured every year? It’s true—I asked Google! Now, I have to confess, I very rarely use them, but my kids do all the time. They doodle, they do school work, they stick them in their ear. . . . (Okay, the last one I made up—but I figured three things made the pencil sound a little more useful!)
Anyway, with school coming up I knew that they would need something to store all of their little goodies in. Pencils, pens, glue, scissors, eraser—all need a place to live. I certainly didn’t want them floating around in their backpacks, or as we like to call them “pack packs” (thanks to my cute little kids who couldn’t say “backpacks” when they were little). They needed to go somewhere.
So, I thought we could run to the store and buy pencil boxes, or . . . we could make our own! Well, since I work here at Stampin’ Up! and my wife has an unquenchable desire to craft, I decided that buying one would certainly be blasphemous!
I decided that the new Wood-Mount Cases would be perfect for this project. As a matter of fact, I have been thinking of tons of things that could go in them since they were introduced—Matchbox cars, puzzles, Barbie accessories . . . but I digress; ours were destined to be pencil boxes!
I also thought that the Tag a Bag Accessory Kit would be the perfect fit to make these go off without a hitch.

So, if you are figuring out the cost—that’s $6.95 for the cases and $7.95 for the Tag a Bag Accessory Kit.
Part of the fun of this activity is that the kids were able to do it themselves. The guidelines? They had to use the Stampin’ Up! items that I gave them and stuff they could find in the house.
It was so much fun to watch their different personalities come through as they were creating their boxes. Baby Girl just went for it. She wanted ribbons and all things girly, while my son thought the perfect thing for his pencil box was to draw inspiration from one of his model trucks he is going to put together—and make lightning bolts on his paper!

After watching the kids create theirs, I have to say—I got a little jealous, I wanted to branch out on my own, and make my wife a little something. You see, this is the first year both kids will be in school and my wife is already not looking forward to it. So, I thought I could make her a survival kit—so that when the kids are away she can have some fun “alone time” and not miss them too much.
I followed the same rules as for my kids, but there are certainly ways you can dress this idea up! With all of the pieces that came I was able to make her the survival box, a little memo book (the chipboard is the packaging for the Tag A Bag Accessory Kit) so she can jot down notes, thoughts, or whatever (I did add some blank white copy paper inside) and a couple of bookmarks! And hey, no teasing me about the penmanship!

As the day gets closer I will also add a little something sweet (and maybe a gift certificate or two!) to keep the blues away!
And just to show what a great deal this is, below is all the extra pieces from the kit!

Drop us a line below to let us know how you are using the Wood-Mount Cases and Tag A Bag Accessory Kit!

Halloween Treats

Give the Littles Something Sweet!

Every year at Halloween I love to give all of my nieces and nephews a treat, and it’s always wrapped up especially for them. Since the August “Best of” stamp set is “Best of Halloween,” it’s the perfect opportunity for me to get started early this year. You can read more about our “Best of” stamp sets here (US/CAN).
I love that there are three main images, a border, and a greeting in the stamp set. Since the main images are about the same size, it was easy to come up with a design that worked for all of them.

I used the new Decorative Window Gift Boxes since they are small and all of my nieces and nephews are still very little. I didn’t think they needed much more candy than these hold!
Got any fun ideas for Halloween gifting? Tell us about them in the comments section below!
