Coffee and Friends

Today’s Tasty Treat

I'm not sure about you, but when the new Stampin' Up! catalog was released, my wish list was (and still is) HUGE! I decided to create a project using my top five MUST-have picks from the catalog. I am absolutely in LOVE!

Here goes:
*Perfect Blend Stamp Set
*Simply Stars Stamp Set*3/4" Chevron Ribbon (this one is the Island Indigo . . . YUMMY!)*Hexagon Punch*Chalk Talk Framelits
Simple things bring me such joy. I am a big-time coffee drinker and the greetings in this set make me pretty happy! When school was coming to a close I thought it would be nice to have one last coffee date with the neighborhood moms before all the munchkins came home.  So, I did a little baking and wrapped up the squares inside some burlap, tied them shut with the YUMMY Island Indigo 3/4" Chevron Ribbon, and attached the little tag.

The matching card is the invitation for the mom date. I have been loving the Honeycomb Embossing Folder since it was released, so having the Hexagon Punch is just GREAT! Although the punch is bigger than the folder, I love to coordinate the two together. Don't you think it looks wonderful? I used a few of the punches on the tag . . . one for a subtle background with the star on it (I sponged in the Crumb Cake ink) and one for the greeting.
Well, I hope you enjoy today's tasty treat! I can't wait to continue creating with all of these super-exciting new products!
Do you have some favorite products from the new catalog? Tell us about them!

July Paper Pumpkin Kit

July Paper Pumpkin Kit

I love the July Paper Pumpkin kit! The banners you can create using the pieces are adorable, but sometimes it’s fun to change things up a bit. Using this month’s kit, I’ve created some alternate samples.

The first project is a fun way to use one of the banners that comes with the kit. If you were to throw a birthday party and wanted your present to match the cake, you could make it happen—since you get two different banners and pennants in the kit!

I made this card using the background stamps that come with the kit. I love how versatile the stamps are. Since they are just background stamps, I’ll be able to use them over and over again on all sorts of projects. It’s such an easy way to add texture!

If you’ve made alternate samples with this month’s Paper Pumpkin kit I’d love to see them! Put your links in the comments below. Or, if you have the chance to use your banners and pennants at a party, I’d love to see pictures of those, too!

Change is Good!

Much like in fashion and home décor, trends in paper crafting are changing all of the time. We often see trends from one area cross over into the other.
I am excited to see change! As creative artists, we tend to craft in our own unique style, but at the same time, we can also be inspired by current trends. By using new and fresh products, we are constantly growing as artists. I love paper crafting and I love following the current trends. Change is good and new products are good!
The first project I have to share with you features the new Coaster Board. I love this stuff! It’s about half the thickness of chipboard and it comes in a pretty vanilla colour. It is recommended to use with the Big Shot dies(US/CAN). I chose the Beautiful Butterflies Bigz Die for my project. I used the cut-out portion of the Coaster Board, then ran it through the Beautifully Baroque Textured Impressions Embossing Folder to add some texture.

I added even more texture by painting my Coaster Board with Vanilla Shimmer Smooch Spritz. This is a go-to product for me! I opened up the bottle and used a small brush to apply the Smooch Spritz. It dries so quickly! I also used it to create some splatter.

My next project features the Coaster Board once again and some other hot trends in paper crafting right now. The pairing of black with pops of color and the addition of silver sewing thread bundled loosely underneath another element is everywhere right now. I love these trends and I couldn’t wait to incorporate them into my creations!

Stampin’ Up! has such fabulous accessories! How you use them is entirely up to you. Whatever your style, you can create with detail using these little gems. I am in love with the new Designer Buttons. I tend to use them in clusters with the Candy Dots, which is another favorite of mine!

Last, I have a cute gift card holder to share. I wanted to create a pocket using the White Vellum Cardstock. I love the way vellum looks! To create the pocket, I folded over the vellum and sewed around the edges with my sewing machine. It measures 3" x 4-1/4". Then I created a cut-out using my 2-1/2" Circle Punch. Next, I created a layered belly band. The Modern Medley Designer Series Paper has such beautiful and trendy patterns in black and vanilla. I pleated the Designer Series Paper and flagged the end. Then I wrapped Linen Thread around it and secured it with a bow.

I created the embellishment base with the Deco Labels Collection Framelits and then stamped it with the Dictionary Stamp in Bermuda Bay ink. I added some 3/4" Crushed Curry Chevron Ribbon and a flower made using the Buttons & Blossoms Simply Pressed Clay Molds. I painted my flower with Vanilla Shimmer Smooch Spritz and added a button in the center. The greeting is from the Six-Sided Sampler Stamp Set.

Find what inspires you and just simply create!

Spread the Joy!

When I was twelve, a demonstrator gave me my very first catalog. I remember studying every page and staying up late making wish lists and doodling coordinating images. I dreamed of designing stamp sets someday.
Years went by and I forgot about that dream. I moved to college and traveled. My stamps stayed home and collected dust under my bed. Slowly, Stampin’ Up! found its way back into my life, and on a whim I applied for a job as a writer. The stars aligned and I got the job! I thought I would die of happiness. I got to see the illustrators at work, and I remembered my love for stamps.
As a writer and now a trainer, I don’t doodle as much as I thought I would. When the stamp contest was announced, I knew I had to be true to myself and enter. The theme—Bucket List—was tricky! Although I do want to go skydiving and visit all 50 states, a big part of my bucket list is becoming what I want to be—so my set is a reminder. “Spread the Joy” reminds me to let loose and enjoy life; to leave love notes for my husband and kids; to be brave when life is stormy; and to do the things that really matter! I’m particularly proud of the jam and bread—100 percent my husband’s idea.
Creating my own stamp set was definitely part of my bucket list! Click here to get your Spread the Joy Set today!

The Undefined Stamp Carving Kit

The Undefined Stamp Carving Kit

Anyone who truly knows me will tell you I live for planning events, vacations, and get-togethers of any kind. The anticipation and planning makes me feel giddy and alive.

My very best friend (since the third grade!) is getting married on August 1. The day she became an engaged woman I started scheming plans for the bridal shower.  What did I ultimately decide the theme would be? A picnic dinner . . . followed by an outdoor movie under the stars. I had to plan something unique and fun for my very best friend—of course!

It was really easy to do. I just hung a sheet from the awning off my back porch, borrowed a projector and speakers, purchased healthy snacks and some theater treats, and finally, set up a popcorn station.

When I heard that Stampin Up! was going to be offering the Undefined Stamp Carving Kit, a light bulb went off. “Why don’t I design and carve a unique stamp for the popcorn bags . . . and let the attendees fill them with popcorn of their favorite flavor?” It would be quick to make multiple bags and would add a fun personal touch to the shower. Done and done!

Surprisingly, the carving was simple and easy—even for a photographer who worked hard to earn B’s in college drawing classes. I traced and colored in the design with a pencil, transferred it to the rubber, and began carving. Super easy! The popcorn bags were a breeze to make, as well. I used only three products: my customized popcorn stamp, the Real Red Classic’ Stampin’ Pad, and Tag a Bag Gift Bags.

The shower was a hit! All the planning paid off when I saw how excited and appreciative my friend was. The guests loved using the popcorn bags. They were the just the right size and highlighted my personalized stamp perfectly.

As the sun was setting, the girls filled their bags full of goodies and got ready to relax under the stars—and watch a classic movie featuring a bride who was planning her wedding. Can you guess which movie it was?

Do you have any plans for using the Undefined Stamp Carving Kit? We’d love to hear about them!

Washi Class!

The first time I heard the term Washi Tape, I didn’t get it!  I mean…I really didn’t get it!  In fact, I had to ask to have the term repeated to me because I thought I was mistaken on what I was hearing!  But as it turned out, they really were saying Washi Tape.  Then I heard that Stampin’ Up! was developing exclusive designs that were going to be added to the product line—this was my chance to find out what all of the excitement was about.
To help introduce this new product, our Concept Art team created an online class called “What to Washi.”  I wanted to know more so I took the class.  Wow, the class showed so many ideas and ways to use Washi!
I really enjoyed the first section—Washi Basics—which shows how easily you can make some quick cards by using the Washi to add just a little pop of color.
Oh my goodness, it really is so easy to use!!  And you just need a little strip to make  an adorable quick card! The first time I applied Washi to the card, I didn’t get it on very straight, but just like the class taught, all I had to do was peel it back up and reapply! Soooo easy. . . .
Here are the cards I made.

I have to say that now I am hooked—I love Washi! I definitely need to keep some on hand so I can make a quick card when I need one.  Actually, I need a card almost everyday so I better keep a few choices on hand!
If you’re like me and want to find out more about Washi, check out the “What to Washi” online class—I know you’ll enjoy it as much as I did!

Settin Sail!

Hot summer nights, complete with neighborhood block-parties, BBQs, and extended outdoor escapes evoke great sensory pleasure for me—with thoughts of great adventure, a refreshing dip in the pool, or sipping on fresh-squeezed lemonade.

One of my absolute favorite timeless summer trends—nautical—was the inspiration for the Settin’ Sail Photopolymer Stamp Set.

For my sweet sister’s birthday, I believed it was essential to design a fun, nautical atmosphere to accompany the outside party we were throwing for her. I created a flag and chain banner—which I displayed with big white balloons. Then, using the Settin’ Sail Photopolymer Stamp Set, I decorated the gift packaging to make it really fun. All aboard the red, white, and awesome ship!

Set sail this season with your own nautical-nonsense creations—using this great “catch” of a stamp set—which you can get now in our online store!
